چکیده

Multi-scale gist (MS-gist) feature manifold for building recognition is presented in the paper. It is described as a two-stage model. In the first stage, we extract the multi-scale gist features that represent the structural information of the building images. Since the MS-gist features are extrinsically high dimensional and intrinsically low dimensional, in the second stage, an enhanced fuzzy local maximal dimensional subspace. EFLMME aims to preserve local intra-class geometry and maximize local interclass margin separability of MS-gist feature manifold of different classes at the same time. To evaluate the performance of our proposed model, experiments were carried out on the Sheffield buildings database, compared with the existing works: (a) the visual gist based building recognition model (VGBR) and (b) the hierarchical building recognition model (HBR). Moreover, EFLMME is evaluated on Sheffield buildings database compared with some linear dimensionality reduction methods. The results show that the proposed model is superior to other models in practice of building recognition and can handle the building recognition problem caused by rotations, variant lighting conditions and occlusions very well. & 2011 Elsevier B.V. Histogram of Oriented Gradient Based Gist Feature for Building Recognition

We proposed a new method of gist feature extraction for building recognition and named the feature extracted by this method as the histogram of oriented gradient based gist (HOG-gist). The proposed method individually computes the normalized histograms of multiorientation gradients for the same image with four different scales. The traditional approach uses the Gabor filters with four angles an...

A multi-manifold discriminant analysis method for image feature extraction

In this paper, we propose a Multi-Manifold Discriminant Analysis (MMDA) method for an image feature extraction and pattern recognition based on graph embedded learning and under the Fisher discriminant analysis framework. In an MMDA, the within-class graph and between-class graph are, respectively, designed to characterize the within-class compactness and the between-class separability, seeking...

Local gradient pattern - A novel feature representation for facial expression recognition

Many researchers adopt Local Binary Pattern for pattern analysis. However, the long histogram created by Local Binary Pattern is not suitable for large-scale facial database. This paper presents a simple facial pattern descriptor for facial expression recognition. Local pattern is computed based on local gradient flow from one side to another side through the center pixel in a 3x3 pixels region...
